Comedy Smashes Into Music at Full Speed at The Goddamn Comedy Jam

"If I polled you, 99% of this crowd would rather be rock stars than whatever the fuck they do now. Myself included, so this is a dream." That's Roastmaster General Jeff Ross, segueing from the stand-up part to the musical part of his set at April's The Goddamn Comedy Jam. GDCJ is a monthly show at the Lyric Theater in Hollywood that features comedians doing sets of regular material, then rocking out with house band Elemenopy, live band karaoke style.

Joe List Wins Comedian Highlander Football Challenge. Joe List is The One.

It started with 49 comedians, battling it out in the Ron and Fez Show/The Interrobang ESPN NFL Comedian Eliminator Challenge. To win, they had to beat the odds, and the other comedians by picking one winning team each week of the NFL season. Anyone who chose wrong was eliminated. To win, you only had to outlast everyone else, until there was only one.

Out of the Tarpit: The Rebirth of the LA Comedy Club Scene

A few years ago, anyone paying attention to the stand-up scene in Los Angeles would have been within their rights to think that the clubs were aging dinosaurs, sinking slowly to their death in a tar pit they’d never be able to escape. The Big Three (The Comedy Store, the Improv and the Laugh Factory) were not having their better days and it seemed like everything they did to get unstuck just made them sink deeper and deeper. But today, business is booming, with the clubs drawing stronger audiences to watch a broader range of comedians and really reasserting their relevance in comedy and pop culture.

Maui Comedy Festival Announced for October 2014

The first annual Maui Comedy Festival is officially on the calendar for October 30 through November 4. Hannibal Buress, Reggie Watts, Ari Shaffir, Paul Provenza, James Adomian, Kyle Kinane, Todd Glass, Tig Notaro, Marc Maron, Aisha Tyler, Eddie Pepitone, Ron Funches, Nate Bargatze, and others totaling 30 comedians will perform in the town of Lahaina on the island of Maui.
