Stephen Colbert To Host The Post-Superbowl Show

CBS announced that the coveted post Super Bowl time slot – a spot that typically garners massive ratings – will be hosted by Stephen Colbert and the “Late Show”.

In recent years the post Super Bowl time slot has been used by networks to showcase newer shows in need of exposure. Colbert joined CBS as host of the “Late Show” back in September of this year to positive reviews after David Letterman’s retirement and was welcomed with positive reviews. However, Colbert still trails current king of late night, Jimmy Fallon and the “Tonight Show”, in the ratings. Fallon will typically rack up an average of 3.8 million viewers a night, while The “Late Show” pulls in a respectable 3.3 Million. The post-Superbowl time slot which typically guarantees around 20 million viewers. Colbert will host a live one-hour show and his late night comrade James Corden will host the “Late Late Show” after the local news ends. CBS said in a statement “We’re extremely proud of our two new late night franchises, and we’re thrilled to give Stephen and James this big Super Bowl Sunday showcase.”
