Stealing Copper is About to Become a Felony

copper theftLawmakers want to make metal theft of critical infrastructure, ie cell phone towers and highway equipment, a federal crime with a 10 year sentence. Metal theft has jumped nearly 40% in recent years, with copper being highly sought out since its price has quadrupled in the last decade.

The state with the highest copper theft rate is Rhode Island when adjusted for population. That’s probably because of all the weirdos that come out of that place.
