Simon Rich: The Best Sketch I Wrote That Didn’t Make It on SNL

Last night SNL writer Simon Rich was on Late Night With Seth Myers and talked about one of his favorite sketches that he wrote for the show, that didn’t make it. Simon chose a favorite fail that was a parody of the Babysitters Club. In the sketch, a 65 year old Filipino woman joined the club out of financial need, but did not get along with the others in the club. Fred Armisen starred in the sketch, but it failed.
Simon is 30 years old and has written 2 novels and 4 short story collections. He talked about the differences between writing a novel and writing for SNL. He shared his SNL trick for elevating mediocre material.
