The New England Journal of Medicine is putting out a report that recommends getting rid of the mandatory waiting period for alcoholics trying to get a necessary liver transplant. The current policy is that a chronic alcoholic must prove that they can stay sober for 6 months before going on the waiting list. Doctors say now they can just tell from the transplant application form when patients list their bartender as their emergency contact person.
