Shake Shack Founder Claims Tipping Comes From Slavery
Shake Shack founder Danny Meyer is known for being against tipping, but while on the “Sporkful” podcast, he went on a rant about why he hates tipping and where its origins come from. Meyer said “The restaurant industry as well as the Pullman train car industry successfully petitioned the United States government to make a dispensation for our industries that we would not pay our servers” but since the customers were paying tips, it wasn’t considered slavery, yet most of the people doing these jobs were black. Can you stop yelling about tipping and just add more tables to your restaurant’s so people don’t turn into savage animals?
