Seth Meyers is Rebooting ‘The Munsters’

This week in reboot news, Deadline got the exclusive on NBC’s planned revival of the 1960’s classic sitcom The Munsters. The show will be a half-hour, single camera comedy just like the original, but with a bit of a twist — rather than residing in the fictional town of Mockingbird Heights, California, the new Munsters will be struggling to fit in among the hipsters of gentrified Brooklyn. Yes, really.

The show was originally rebooted in 2012 when NBC created an hour-long pilot called Mockingbird Lane, which starred Jerry O’Connel as Herman Munster, Portia de Rossi as Lily, Eddie Izzard as Grandpa and Charity Wakefield as Marilyn. That show ended up being a standalone Halloween special, as the hour format didn’t really work.

Bravo’s Odd Mom Out creator Jill Kargman has been looking for a chance to helm a reboot, however, and got that chance after contacting NBC and teaming up with Late Night with Seth Meyers’ host Seth Meyers. Kargman will write the script and executive produce alongside Meyers and his production partner, Mike Shoemaker.

No word yet on who will fill out the cast of the show, so keep an eye out for more details as we get them.
