SCTV and Scorsese!? Only on Netflix

Before there was UCB, there was SCTV. Running from 1976 and 1984, Canadian television’s greatest legacy showcased Canada’s finest comedians, who also happen to be some of the greatest comedic performers in modern history. The great and enduring success of Saturday Night Live may have overshadowed the series, but the importance of SCTV to the development of modern comedy cannot be ignored.

On Thursday, Netflix announced that they are bringing together castmembers of the iconic series with Oscar Winning director Martin Scorses to create an original comedy special exploring the enduring legacy of Emmy-winning sketch comedy show SCTV.

Scorsese will reunite comedy legends and former SCTV co-stars Joe Flaherty, Eugene Levy, Andrea Martin, Catherine O’Hara, Martin Short and Dave Thomas in front of a live audience for An Afternoon with SCTV, moderated by Jimmy Kimmel. The event will be held at Toronto’s historic Elgin Theatre on Sunday, May 13 at 3 p.m.

The series’ stars include some of the most beloved and celebrated names in laughter, including the late John Candy and Harold Ramis.
