Roy Wood Jr. Performs Stand Up on the Tonight Show

Roy Wood Jr.’s brand new comedy special, Father Figure premieres this Sunday, February 19th on Comedy Central. On Monday night, anyone unfamiliar with Roy got a hysterical introduction to him when he performed on the Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon. The Tonight Show being the only late night program where Roy Wood Jr. had not performed as of yet.

Fallon also gave a great plug to The Stand Comedy Club during the segment. Fallon was hanging out there on Sunday night checking out a Tonight Show Showcase. It’s been a big month for the Stand, Kevin Hart performed there twice in recent weeks.

Roy Wood Jr. took to stage to a strong round of applause and immediately said, “It’s almost as if we know each other.” Of course, that could be from his work as a correspondent on the Daily Show with Trevor Noah, or it could be that Roy has such a strong delivery style on stage that it feels like he would be comfortable and kill in any decade of comedy. He effortlessly took the Tonight Show audience through a minute of talking about losing “an argument with his girl over light bulbs”, through couples finding compatibility through thermostat preferences, to how much he despises store discount club cards. He wrapped up his set blasting cruise ship captains while applauding airline pilots for the work they do.

Roy Wood Jr. was named one of “Variety’s 10 Comics to Watch for 2016” and you can read our write-up about his brand new special, Roy Wood Jr.: Father Figure which premieres this Sunday, February 19th at 11pm on Comedy Central.
