Roseanne Decides Not to Quit Twitter After All, Tweets, Deletes and Blames Ambien

Roseanne’s announcement that she’d be leaving Twitter behind turned out to be untrue. Soon after she lost her gig and her management team, Roseanne returned to the social media network with a series of mixed messages, asking people not to defend her, then retweeting people defending her. She also apologized to those who lost their jobs because of her, but then later reacted to their posts about her. And she seemed to be blaming her behavior on Ambien. Many of her tweets have since been deleted, but had already been posted on sites like Deadline and Mediate before she pulled them off social media.

Don’t feel sorry for me guys, she wrote, “I just want to apologize to the hundreds of people and wonderful writers (all liberal) and talented actors who lost their jobs on my show due to my stupid tweet,” she wrote,” before later deleting that tweet and reacting directly to Sara Gilbert and Michael Fishman who she later complained “threw her under the bus.” The deleted tweet also announced she plans to appear on Joe Rogan’s podcast on Friday. Another tweet asked her followers not to ‘start all that boycott abc stuff” and said “it’ all okay.”

Another since-deleted post asked fans not to defend her, saying “I did something unforgiveable.” She explained that it was 2am when she wrote the tweet, “and I was ambien tweeting.” The post said she went too far, it was “egregious indefensible” and asked people “don’t defend it please.” In a separate post she tweeted that “Joe Rogan is right about ambien” and says that in the past she’s cracked eggs at the wall at 2am on ambien.

Her tone turned after that saying she was both sorry for her tweet, but that she would also defend herself to her followers, “so, go away if u don’t like it.” She said she was tired of being attacked and belittled more than other comedians who have said worse.” That tweet was later deleted too.

Today she’s no longer apologizing to her coworkers.  At 5am eastern time- she responded to Michael Fishman’s statement- he played D.J. on the show- saying, “I created the platform for that inclusivity and you know it.  ME.  You throw me under the bus.  nice!”

To co-star Sara Gilbert’s tweet saying Roseanne’s statements were abhorrent, she wrote “Wow! unreal.”  An hour later, she signed off saying goodnight, but this morning started a fresh round of responses, including one that is more supportive of Gilbert.  “I understand her position and why she said what she said,” Roseanne writes, “i forgive her. It just shocked me a bit, but I indeed fucked up.”

In her responses to other tweeters and followers, she says she feels she’s been punished enough, and wants to tell her side of the story now, including that she thought Valerie Jarrett was white, Jewish or Persian, and therefore it was okay to joke about her. She repeatedly says that she blames herself, not the Ambien, despite earlier tweets to the contrary.  She also thanked those who supported her, including media personality Lionel. “Thanks for supporting me,” she wrote. “I gave them the weapon to kill me-I was not equipped to take all the heat. I cracked & made a stupid insensitive joke-it’s my fault.”

At one point she suggests that it was Wanda Sykes tweet that tipped the scales in ABC’s decision to cancel “Roseanne.” She was replying to a tweet about Sykes when she wrote “her tweet made ABC very nervous and they cancelled the show.”
