RIP Mr. Lahey Of The Trailer Park Boys

John Dunsworth, the actor who played the iconic role of trailer park supervisor Mr. Lahey on the Canadian mockumentary series, the Trailer Park Boys, passed away suddenly at the age of 71.

Dunsworth played the character of Mr. Lahey for 11 seasons on Trailer Park Boys. He was a classically trained Shakespearean actor who gained a gigantic and loyal following thanks to the cult hit. It’s quite possible no one has ever played a drunk better on screen than John Dunsworth – who is sober in real life.

His daughter, Sarah Dunsworth, also appears on Trailer Park Boys and announced his death due to a “short and unexpected illness”. He played the character or Mr. Lahey since the show’s inception on Canada’s Showcase channel in 2001. He was the bisexual dad to Ellen Paige, who got her start on Trailer Park Boys.

Here is the statement his daughter released:

“With heavy and broken hearts the family of John F. Dunsworth would like to let people know that our amazing husband, father and grandfather John Dunsworth has passed away,” his daughter Sarah Dunsworth said in a statement to CBC News.

“John left this world peacefully after a short and unexpected illness,” her statement said.

This will be a heavy, heavy blow to the show. It’s unknown yet if they’ll continue to produce new seasons for Netflix, but it’s hard to imagine it going on without such an essential and beloved character.
