Reopen the Case: Che Guevara

Reopen the Case- guevera agedErnesto “Che” Guevara is one of the most argued about figures of the 20th century as he became a cultural and political icon through his work as a revolutionary in the overthrowing of the Cuban government and his time assisting Bolivia in their fight against the government and class warfare.

Guevara is widely reviled in some circles for his brutal tactics he used to achieve his political and ideological goals in the overthrowing of the Batista regime in the late 1950’s. After helping turn Cuba into what many saw as a police state, he ran the ‘Cabana’ prison which was the site of over 1,000 executions, some against people that had yet to receive a trial. The rise of forced labor camps for political dissidents grew under his command and basic freedoms like free speech and freedom of the press were taken away from some.

But was Guevara really the monster that many paint him out to be?

Guevara was a fighter for those who did not have a voice and fought for them in the battle against the growing disparity in wealth and opportunities that plagued them. Guevara provided hope and freedom to the people of the puppet regimes set up by countries like the U.S. and Russia and allowing them to live a life with dignity.

Which is it? Is Che Guevara the ruthless killer history has shown him to be? Or has history gotten it wrong?

Lets reopen the case.
