What was the best / most interesting decade?
New York City for example can be divided by decade. 1950s were a "romantic" time of growth for the city, but it was also the beging of chemical experimentation. 1960 saw the begining of the downward slide in to the 70s where drug abuse and crime were at an all time high. The 70s in NY were ridiculous. The 80 marked an attempt to turn the city around. The NYPD today is much more professional then it was back then. More oversight now. By the late 90s, we started to see positve results. Today the city in my oppinion is at a high point, if you discount hurricane sandy.
There did seem to be a "filtered Excellence" of the 50s. Science Fiction of that time is still a template for today. But it could not last. The Vietnam war, I think is what changed things, when young people started to distrust the government and started to question society. Things were bound to change
Living in earlier times, anything from the middle ages until the 70s, would be super cool right up until your first abscessed tooth and you're off to see the medieval barber (70s dentistry, same thing).
I think the 70s even though Im more of a child of the eighties. The 70s was probably the coolest decade and its been all downhill douchebaggery since.
In the big picture they all have pluses and minuses. In my life I was all in with a high risk sport in the 2000's, very high highs. Nothing beats living each day with a fire in your belly, to live with a passion is to truly live.
We are in the first decade in recorded history in which it is the norm for women to go completely bare down below. How did it take this long? They didn't even trim till the 90's...
The best opening line of any song ever....whiskey bottles.... Brand new car..... Oak tree your in my way
The 1990's. I liked the music, I liked drinking, I liked turning it around in 95 and getting my life back. I understand this is only personal stuff.... but it was great for me.
1700's were my time. Im fascinated by the war, empires and the outfits and wigs., Dandy Fops and pistol duels.
1960s. Specifically in southern michigan so i could witness the rise and fall of two of the best bands ever, the MC5 and the stooges. Birth of punk baby.
The most appealing decade for me was the 1950's. Post war prosperous America. Music, attitude. I'd LOVE to have been in NYC during that time.
But the 80's are so close for me.. Its when i was born, most nostalgic. Ridiculous clothing. Best cheesy movies. New wave. Punk. Love it.
80's NYC. It was a Warzone! Punks! Disco freaks! All mixing it up with yuppies. Graphitti everywhere. Flickering neon...checker cabs.
1960s: Cold War, Vietnam, first real activism, communist hunting, great style, TV, Beatles vs. Stones, and Ronnie B was born (I'm guessing).
Hard to beat the incredible changes that came about in the last half of the 1960s... the 90s had a chance at being something amazing with the music/indie film explosion until we decided to make Limp Bizkit famous.
