The Podcast You Absolutely Have to Listen To: Comedy Metal Midgets

“The Podcast You Absolutely Have To Listen To” is a new series where we talk about the podcasts on the internet you should be checking out. If you’re living on planet Earth, you already know about the most famous ones– like WTF with Marc Maron, The Adam Carolla Show, The Nerdist, The Joe Rogan Experience, and Comedy Bang Bang. But there are literally thousands more and we’re combing through them for you, to let you know which ones you should check out first.

This week, “Comedy Metal Midgets” with host Jim Florentine

Do you have a sweet tooth? Is your favorite holiday Christmas? Do you call frozen yogurt “FroYo”? If your answer is yes to any of these questions Jim Florentine would like to have a word with you.

Every Wednesday, Jim Florentine uses his Comedy Metal Midgets podcast to devour all those things you think are fun (they’re not, they’re lame).  Get ready for Jim to shit out the jagged remnants of his disgruntled opinions on the socially mundane. Each episode is filled with hilarious hatred towards various subjects ranging from Jim’s complete disdain for COSTCO to dumb Facebook posts that listeners submit. Self-reflect on your own stupid habits because this week’s podcast you absolutely have to listen to is Jim Florentine’s Comedy Metal Midgets!

Hopefully you don’t listen to this podcast expecting docility because there is none. Nothing is safe from Florentine’s blunt onslaught.

Florentine is known for his controversial Crank Yankers character Special Ed, so you won’t be surprised to find out that Jim is a pro at getting under people’s skin.  Here’s a perfect example– the May 26th episode (one of my personal favorites)  that was recorded in Jim’s car on a ride home from a gig, featured Chad Zumock and the butt of this particular prank, Joe Howard. Refusing to pull over so their victim can piss, Florentine and Zumock ear beat Joe Howard into an uncomfortable rage.

Jim also hates simple pleasures like Christmas gifts, and fantasy football.

And then there are the dumb Facebook posts.  Florentine rails against a woman complaining about a dog park on her Facebook timeline. “Your dogs aren’t going home and thinking about their dogs friends. Stop! Dogs are not like humans, it’s stupid to think they are!”  And that’s only the beginning.  Jim also hates simple pleasures like Christmas gifts, and fantasy football.  Florentine is a pro storyteller, too. What makes a podcast about one’s hatred for Christmas work is the honesty. “If you’re an adult you shouldn’t want Christmas presents. A child I can understand. 13, 17, even 18…I don’t need you to buy me a sweater…I just buy my own shit,” Jim says.

In addition to hearing the  disdain Jim has for  the stupidity of his peers, you will also hear extreme guest interviews.  Interviews with his raunchy friend Gary, are fan favorites and the conversations will often veer toward to the silliness of their sexual escapades and pranks. Of course, you can’t help but notice the contrast between Florentine’s anger towards adults behaving like children and his very own childish pranks….but it works.  Why?  The pranks are really funny.

Popular culture couldn’t be more on notice. Comedy Metal Midgets is funny, and blunt, yet completely logical. Florentine may sound like a mad man, but he knows precisely what he’s talking about.

Popular culture couldn’t be more on notice.   Comedy Metal Midgets is funny, and blunt, yet completely logical. Florentine may sound like a mad man, but he knows precisely what he’s talking about. Florentine also reaches out to his fans on Twitter and Facebook to help mine for societal douchery.  Have  a “good” slang word that you know will get under Jim’s skin? Tweet him @mrjimflorentine and maybe your skin crawling terminology will get ripped, too.

His  fan base is a  unique demographic of metal and comedy fans coming together, and it works.  I’ve even caught my own church-going mother chuckling quite a bit to his charming rants.  From his big break on Howard Stern in the late 90’s to the infamous Crank Yankers run, and of course his 20+ years of working as a stand up comedian, Jim’s been making people laugh, and it all comes together on his podcast.  His vast knowledge of music and co-host position on Eddie Trunk’s VH1 show That Metal Show brings in the metal side of his fan community. It’s no surprise when you listen to the deep gravelly voiced host of Comedy Midgets that this organic blend of genres is a perfect fit.   Jim Florentine’s Comedy Metal Midgets is an opinionated anger fueled, prank filled joyride open for anyone willing to listen and laugh.

Now shape up and be an adult….
