David Letterman’s last show is coming up and he’s not sure how to handle it. Senator Al Franken suggested to him that the finale coming up on May 20th be mawkish or maudlin. It’s hard to tell how sentimental Dave wants to get, but he is starting to wrap things up. On Friday’s show, Dave Letterman paid tribute to the man that has been with him for the past 33 years on two different networks, band leader Paul Shaffer.

The Paul Shaffer highlight reel was anything, but sentimental. There’s still a month out before Dave calls it quits, but that doesn’t mean he can’t go ahead and look back at the crazy, kooky contribution of Paul. Put together to Paul Shaffer’s huge hit “It’s Raining Men” which was recorded by the Weather Girls and went to number one around the world, the montage didn’t focus on Paul’s music, but his comedy with Late Night and the Late Show. According to the highlight reel, over the years, Paul has taken a lot of bad falls, been hit in the head several times and may have a drinking problem.

It all wraps up on Wednesday, May 20th at 11:35pm et on CBS.
