Now We Know the Name of the Amy Schumer-Goldie Hawn Movie

Amy Schumer tweeted today that her upcoming movie with Goldie Hawn has an official title- Snatched. Very little is known about the movie other than that in addition to Schumer and Hawn- who play mother and daughter- the cast also includes Ike Barinholtz, Christopher Meloni, Colin Quinn, Wanda Sykes and Randall Park. Joan Cusack is reportedly also a co-star.

The movie filmed in Hawaii over the summer, and apparently left Schumer so exhausted, she ended up in the hospital with bronchitis, and fractured ribs as a result of coughing too hard.

Jonathan Levine directs, with a screenplay by Katie Dippold who also penned the Ghostbusters reboot, and The Heat which starred Melissa McCarthy. Paul Feig is on board as an executive producer

Details of the plot have been kept under tight wraps, but in an interview with Collider back in July, the writer Katie Dippold revealed some clues. The movie is semi-autobiographical, or at least based on her relationship with her own mother. Dippold told Collider her mother was adventurous when she was younger, but after a divorce she became overly safety conscious and fearful. The movie answers the question of what would happen if she took her mother on an exotic, off-the-beaten-path vacation trying to bring her back out of her shell. But then everything goes wrong, and all her mother’s fears turn out to be true.

“So, it’s then basically trying to get to an American embassy through the Amazon rainforest and whatnot,” she said in the Collider piece.   “Two women lost in the jungle.”

The stars of Snatched made an appearance on Amy’s Instagram during filming this summer, with a controversial parody of Beyonce’s “Formation”.

Snatched is in theaters May 12, 2017.
