Norman Lear to Boycott Kennedy Center Honors

Legendary TV writer and producer Norman Lear, best known as the creative force behind classic shows like All in the Family and The Jeffersons, has now joined the ever-growing list of celebrities who are voicing their distaste for Donald Trump. According to an article published by the New York Times on Thursday, Lear will be boycotting this year’s Kennedy Center Honors ceremony, for which he was selected as an honoree along with a few other artists. Lear was selected alongside rapper LL Cool J, singer Gloria Estefan, singer and producer Lionel Richie, and choreographer Carmen de Lavallade as a Kennedy Center Honorees for their lifetime achievements in the arts, an award given out each year by the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. The ceremony takes place in Washington D.C., and is traditionally attended by the President and the First Lady, hence Lear’s refusal to attend the event.

Lear joins the ranks of Meryl Streep, the cast of Hamilton, and a host of other celebrities who have been vocally critical of the current administration, and that list is bound to grow even larger as time goes on.
