New Faces: The Creators Shows Off Their Inaugural Class at Just for Laughs

This year, JFL introduced a new showcase to its stable of New Faces presentations – the Creators.

It’s a way for the festival to embrace the changing face of comedy, where the term “comedian” now describes someone who makes silly Instagram videos or is a YouTube phenomenon as often as it’s used to describe a stand-up.

The freshman class of Creators includes Brandon Rogers, Glenn Boozan, Good Cop Great Cop (Matt Porter & Charlie Hankin), Handsome Dancer (Matt Pavich & James Manzello), Juhahn Jones, Quinta Brunson and The Cooties (Ethan Edenburg, Jacob Jeffries, Eric Jackowitz and Raul Fernandez).

Each artist/group created a “best of” reel of their work, then sat down for a very brief Q&A that barely scratched the surface of the basics like “how did you start working together?” and “Why did you gravitate towards a digital platform?” Among the group, Glenn Bozan stood out both in terms of audience reaction to her sketches and her presence during the interview. She opened by riffing on a previous answer from Rogers, reacting to body-shaming comment trolls with, “You don’t like my body? OK, you don’t have to fuck it,” and warming the hearts of creators on any platform by saying she’s “always just done what I think is funny first and then you hope the clicks follow.”

You can get a taste of Glenn from her web series with her actual Above Average office HR Manager, Is This Ok?

Congratulations to all the New Faces Creators!
