New Brigsby Bear Trailer Sheds Light on Kyle Mooney’s Interesting Premise

The trailer for upcoming feature “Brigsby Bear” is as confusing as it is intuitive. Kyle Mooney plays a confused, fragile-seeming adult man with the earnestness of a child recently freed from the kidnappers he grew up thinking were his parents. Upon release into the terrifying real world, Mooney completes the children’s show he watched in captivity that only he has ever seen, by making it as a movie. Yeah, that premise can be contained as a few sentences and is also hugely mystifying.

The casting of Mooney seems perfect and the incredible ensemble includes Mark Hamill (the good “Star Wars”), Andy Samberg as an actor as well as the rest of Lonely Island functioning as producers, Michaela Watkins (“Casual”) and UCB co-founder Matt Walsh. Then there’s the film’s 88% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and its positive reception at Cannes. Basically, it seems like Kyle Mooney is going to make the incredibly odd into something palatable to the larger American public. Again.
