Netflix Announces New Animated Series From Simpsons Creator

In the wake of the success of shows like BoJack Horseman and F is for Family, Netflix has just announced a new animated series from Matt Groening (The Simpsons, Futurama) in the works called Disenchantment. The adult-oriented comedy fantasy series has been given a twenty-episode order, which will drop in ten episode increments sometime in 2018.

Disenchantment will tell the story of Bean (Broad City’s Abbi Jacobson), an oft-drunk princess from the quickly crumbling kingdom of Dreamland. Accompanied by her elf friend Elfo (Married’s Nat Faxon) and her personal demon Luci (The Eric Andre Show’s Eric Andre), the trio embark on a journey that brings them face-to-face with all manner of creatures, from ogres, imps and harpies to walruses and human idiots alike. Others contributing their voice talents include John DiMaggio, Tress MacNeille, Jeny Batten, Billy West, Maurice LaMarche, Matt Berry, David Herman, Rich Fulcher, Noel Fielding and Lucy Montgomery. Animation for the show will be provided by Rough Draft Studios, who also animated Groening’s hit show Futurama.

“Ultimately,” said Groening of the show, “Disenchantment will be about life and death, love and sex, and how to keep laughing in a world full of suffering and idiots, despite what the elders and wizards and other jerks tell you.”
