New Dramedy Trailer Sets Record for Most Viewed

this is us

On Tuesday, Deadline reported that the trailer for This Is Us, NBC’s new dramedy, had received over 15 million views in the 48 hours that it had been on Facebook. That number was impressive, having set the record for views received during upfront week by a new show trailer. As it turns out, the trailer has bested its own record considerably since then: As of this afternoon, four days after release, the trailer has received 26 million views on Facebook. That’s not even taking into account the views from both YouTube and NBC.com, which would add a few million more to that tally.

Needless to say, fans seem to be enjoying the trailer, which begins to lay out the foundation of the show’s plot; a group of thirty-somethings, a few of whom seem to share birthdays, struggle with their personal demons (weight loss, meeting a long-lost parent, losing a newborn) as they slowly but surely begin to cross paths with one another.

The trailer doesn’t obviously feature any big stars or flashy visuals, so the only explanation for the trailer’s popularity is that people simply are intrigued by the plot. Only time will tell whether the hype behind This Is Us is able to sustain itself or if the show will fade into obscurity like so many shows before it.

The ensemble cast includes former pop-star Mandy Moore, Milo Ventimiglia of Heroes and Gilmore Girls, Sterling K. Brown, Justin Hartley, Susan Kelechi Watson, Chrissy Metz, Chris Sullivan and Ron Cephas Jones. It is unclear when the show will premiere.
