NBC Cancels One Comedy, Renews Another

NBC liked the results of their summer sitcom, The Carmichael Show starring Jerrod Carmichael, David Alan Grier and Lil Rel Howery. Ratings and reviews were strong enough for the abbreviated six-episode first-season that the network has ordered a second season. The news comes soon after The Hollywood Reporter put out an impassioned plea to the network to renew and renew quickly. The former lead network for strong comedies has been faltering in the genre of late, and its great to see some support for a genuinely funny show. The pilot and series is written by Jerrod Carmichael and writer-director Nicholas Stoller and is inspired by Carmichael’s life.

The news comes at the same time that NBC announced that they have canceled Mr. Robinson, their other summer sitcom, starring Craig Robinson. Mr. Robinson starred Craig Robinson as a lead singer and keyboardist for a funk band, who moonlights as a substitute high school music teacher to help pay the bills. Frasier’s Perry Gilpin co-starred along with Brandon T. Jackson.

No word on when Season 2 of The Carmichael Show will premiere on NBC.
