MTV’s Celebrity Deathmatch Returns…Really

cd

The clay is about to hit the fan. MTV2, MTV’s funnier sibling, is bringing back “Celebrity Deathmatch”. This is the third life for the claymation series that pits animated celebrities against each other in a battle to the death. Damn the last time this was on people still thought Fred Durst had talent.

Original “Deathmatch” creator Eric Fogel is back as executive producer. Viacom says the new series will be “reimagined for a world of social media and hourly Twitter wars”. So, next time there’s a celebrity Twitter battle, expect it to spill over into the “Celebrity Deathmatch” arena. If that’s the case, Donald Trump, Kelly Osbourne and Ricky Gervais’s clay avatars will be fighting on a weekly basis.

The return of “Celebrity Deathmatch” is part of MTV2’s commitment to comedy programming which recently brought the spin-off network its best ratings ever. MTV2 announced that the first quarter of 2015 was its highest rated in its nearly 20 year history. The success comes from its series “Guy Code” featuring comedians and other pop culture personalities taking on the issues that form male behavior and “Nick Cannon Presents: Wild ‘N Out”, MTV2’s improv and sketch comedy series. Plus, the network’s new comedy competition show “Joking Off” starring some the funniest young comics in the country including Liza Treyger, Matteo Lane, Dave Ebert, Desus & Mero, James Davis, Matt Pavich, James Manziello, Kristen Acimovich, and Mike Camerlengo and hosted by DeRay Davis recently premiered at number one in its time slot with male teens and teens overall.

There’s no scheduled premiere date yet for the return of “Celebrity Deathmatch”.
