Moontower Badge Holders Will Get First Look at Showtime’s “I’m Dying Up Here”

It’s April, which means it’s almost time for one of the most exciting events of the year. “Is it 4/20?” you ask. That’s not what I was talking about, but yes, you’re right. Correction: It’s almost time for the year’s second most anticipated event, Austin’s Moontower Comedy Festival, taking place from April 19th — 22nd.

Moontower, while only coming up on its sixth year, has quickly become one of the country’s most talked-about comedy festivals, and for good reason. Year after year, they manage to reel in some of comedy’s biggest names and funniest shows for four days of balls-to-the-wall laughter. Patton Oswalt, Ali Wong, Colin Quinn, Margaret Cho, Jim Gaffigan, podcasts and radio shows like The Bonfire, Kill Tony, and My Favorite Murder; these are just a sliver of the content that will be available for festival goers in a few weeks. One project in particular might catch some fans’ eyes, as it has been much-talked about despite not having even hit TV yet: Showtime’s upcoming period drama, I’m Dying Up Here.

Festival organizers announced this week that on Friday, April 21st, Showtime will be providing attendees with a special screening of their new show at the Alamo Drafthouse Ritz. I’m Dying Up Here is a fictional portrayal of the comedy scene in 1970’s Los Angeles, following club owner Goldie (who seems to emulate legendary Comedy Store owner Mitzi Shore) and the various comics who come through her establishment. The star-studded cast features Melissa Leo, Al Madrigal, Erik Griffin, Cathy Moriarty, Sebastian Stan, Jon Daly, Alfred Molina, and more.

The screening is only available to Moontower badge holders, so be sure to  grab your tickets as soon as possible to cement your chance at getting in. I’m Dying Up Here is set to debut on Showtime on Sunday, June 4th at 10 p.m.
