Libertarians Bid Farewell To Ron Swanson

Ron Swanson was a government hating Libertarian on a liberal leaning pro-government TV show and was not the enemy. The Daily Beast did a look at how the two came together. “Parks and Recreation” aired its series finale Tuesday on NBC. Nick Offerman’s character often put out his Libertarian views including being thrilled over a government shut down in on episode of the sitcom.

One piece of dialogue showed Ron Swanson’s sarcastic comments about big government. He said, “I think the entire government should be privatized. Chuck E. Cheese could run the parks. Everything operated by tokens. Drop in a token, go on the swing set. Drop in another token, take a walk. Drop in a token, look at a duck.”

Despite his politics on the series, Ron Swanson was a beloved character because of his love of liberty and the country. Is there hope that people with different political agendas can be friends?
