Letterman Gets to Know James Cordon, the New Host of the Late Late Show

Last night, future host of the Late Late Show James Cordon had his first appearance on Letterman, and he’s charming, giggles a bit like Ricky Gervais, and he’s a new dad.   Cordon comes from a town that he says nobody has ever heard of, ninety minutes south east of London.  Even in Britain nobody has heard of this town, High Wickham, where apparently not much happens.  But they have a chair museum, and that’s something.

He talked about how his parents reacted to the news that he would be taking over The Late Late Show (currently hosted by Craig Ferguson).  Getting such a prestigious gig as a Late Night host on American television is a big deal, particularly for a lad from High Wickham, so when he told his parents, his dad was proud, and choked up.  Until he found out what time the show airs.  Cordon’s dad suddenly thought his son had the worst gig on television.  “12:30.  12:30?  Half past midnight…. well what time does it end?”

James Corden’s Late Late Show debut is set for March 9, 2015.  He’s also in the new film “Into the Woods” out in December.
