Lena Dunham Grew Up in Therapy

lena therapy

Lena Dunham has been in therapy since she was a little girl. In a new essay she wrote for the New Yorker, Lena talks about her phobias and obsessive behavior that started when she was a kid. Her parents, who were both in therapy, took her to see her first therapist when she was 8 years old. She writes – “I was afraid of everything”. She worried about disease including typhoid and leprosy, uncleaned food, kidnapping, homeless people, headaches and not being able to sleep. And that was just scratching the surface.

Lena writes about the different counselors and therapists she’s dealt with over the years. Including one of her favorites whose daughter became one of her best friends in college. She gives a unique perspective on being in treatment and the effects of medicine and dealing with OCD and depression. Lena Dunham has since gone on to create the award winning series “Girls” on HBO, but she still continues her treatment today.

Thank God, because without therapy she may have ended up a topless dancer showing off her body to total strangers. Therapy works !!!
