Late Night’s Reaction To Stephen Colbert Replacing David Letterman

stephen-colbert-david-lettermanIn the biggest late night comedy news since Jay Leno lost the Tonight Show and then lost it again, Stephen Colbert has been named as David Letterman’s replacement when he leaves the Late Show next year. It’s still too soon to know exactly how this will change the late night landscape, but here’s some of the reactions from other hosts about the Colbert announcement.

The Daily Show’s Jon Stewart. Even though they’re only a couple years apart in age, Jon Stewart couldn’t be a prouder dad about Stephen Colbert’s success.

The Tonight Show’s Jimmy Fallon. Despite the new competition, Jimmy Fallon says there won’t be a late night war. He means it. Jimmy’s too nice for war.

Arsenio Hall. He jokes about being the first choice to replace Dave. There’s some shoot to this work. Arsenio could have been waiting for a call from CBS that never came.

Late Night’s Seth Meyers. The new Late Night host is just thrilled to be in the late night comedy fraternity and excited to welcome a new member.

The Late Late Show’s Craig Ferguson. Short and sweet and gracious, but Craig does sound like a man who’s going to take his $12 million CBS pay out and go live on an island. And not the one where Scotland is connected to England.
