Larry David’s Life is an Endless Episode of Curb

Larry David was the big big guest on the Late Show with David Letterman last night and it turns out that his life is frighteningly similar to the lives of his Seinfeld and Curb Your Enthusiasm characters.  Watching Dave interview Larry is a lot like watching an episode of either show.

Larry is concerned about doing this play, because he’s not an actor, and he hates theater.  He told Letterman, “Dave, I’m nervous I’m frightened, I’m scared to death, help me!” Of course, we don’t know what to believe with Larry David.  Everything sounds like a Curb episode, which of course doesn’t mean it’s not true.

Larry says he wrote the play, but was never planning to be in it; he thought he’d write it and stand in the back.  See, his friend– Lloyd Braun– his father died, and Larry thought it was funny and could be a play.  He figured the star would be anyone but him, but unfortunately, he says, the lead character sounds suspiciously like him, and he got talked into the playing the lead.  He’s worried about everything, the actors, distractions, remembering lines, success and more.

So now Larry has his big Broadway debut coming up.  He wrote the play, he’s starring in the play– and he doesn’t want to — but he’s found that the key to being able to pull this off, is hotel living.  Larry likes living among transients. Everyone around him is temporary, and moving along.  Nothing goes easy for Larry.  Not even his encounters with the maid.

The good news, single ladies, is it sounds like he’s doing this whole play thing to get laid.  And what a sweet deal that sounds like it would be; that is if you like to be with someone who is very unhappy, has some social issues and can’t wait for you to get the hell out.  The good news for everyone else is, it sounds like he’s got enough material for 40 more seasons of curb coming out of the experience.
