Kevin Nealon and Jane Kaczmarek Join Tommy Johnagin Comedy Pilot
CBS is adding two comedy veterans to the new Tommy Johnagin sitcom pilot. Kevin Nealon (Saturday Night Live, Weeds) will play Johnagin’s father in the still untitled pilot. Jane Kaczmarek from “Malcolm in the Middle, will play his mother.
The two are strong additions to the cast which includes Tommy Johnagin playing a fictional version of himself, raising a family in a Midwestern town while pursuing a stand up comedy career. JoAnna Garcia Swisher plays his wife.
Deadline described the characters that Nealon and Kaczmarek will play. Nealon as Johnagin’s father, is a charming ladies man who’s smile is just a deception while Jane Kaczmarek’s character is just the opposite. She’s the responsible owner of the town diner who brags about all of Johnagin’s comedy accomplishments and makes sure his dad always gets the worst table in her restaurant.
The pilot is being written by Justin Halpern and Patrick Schumacker. Halpern created the popular Twitter account, “Shit My Dad Says”. He and Schumaker turned it into a CBS TV series which starred William Shatner.
