Kevin Hart to Star in Reboot of John Hughes’ ‘The Great Outdoors’

Details are slim at the moment, but it was announced today that comedy megastar Kevin Hart has been cast to star in the remake of the 1988 John Hughes film The Great Outdoors. The original film starred John Candy and Stephanie Faracy as a Chicago couple who take their family on a camping trip, only to have their plans interrupted by the unexpected arrival of their in-laws, played by Dan Aykroyd and Annette Bening. It’s assumed that Hart will be playing Candy’s role, and there’s no news yet on who will play his foil.

The film is being produced by Hart and Michael De Luca (Captain Phillips, Moneyball), and is being written by Randall Green, who currently writes on Showtime’s Billions. This is just one of many film projects that Hart is currently involved in. He provided his voice for the upcoming Captain Underpants movie, played one of the starring roles in the new Jumanji movie, which recently wrapped production, and is scheduled to star in 2018’s Ride Along 3.
