Kevin Hart Says He May Be Done Doing Stand-Up Tours

Super-ultra-mega-star comedian Kevin Hart dropped a bombshell of an announcement during a panel at CinemaCon today according to Variety.com: He may be done touring his stand-up act.

Hart is in the midst of wrapping up his massive 156-show What Now? tour, which has taken the Philadelphia native across 112 cities, 13 countries, and 5 continents over the span of a year. A tour of that size would burn out any comic, and Hart is no exception. After selling out some of the biggest venues in the U.S. and abroad with ease, it appears that Hart feels he has reached the top of the mountain. Hart really can’t get any more successful in the stand-up world, and so he seems ready to retire his suitcase for good.

“I don’t know if I’m ever going to go out and do it again,” said Hart, saying his most recent tour was “my last fucking tour.”

His experience during the What Now? tour seems to have been one for the record books, culminating in a film of the same name. The movie shows Hart as he travels the world, meeting with friends and celebrities behind the scenes, selling out stadiums, and . . . uh, fighting people with wine bottle openers. Apparently the film will be one part documentary, one part fiction, as the comic brings in friends for cameos in scripted bits and action sequences. As with everything Hart does, the film sounds like it will be flashy, loud, and hilarious.

Of course, it’s entirely possible that Hart’s claim that he’s throwing in the touring-towel could just be the fatigue talking, and that given some time to rest, the comic may very well hit the road again in the future. Only time will tell. In the meantime, Hart will be releasing his What Now? film later this year, and will be starring in two films with summer release dates: Central Intelligence, opposite Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, and the animated, comic-packed The Secret Life of Pets. The former comes out June 17th, the latter, July 8th.
