Kevin Hart is Now Recording Albums as His Characters
Kevin Hart is so successful, that he doesn’t need to limit his career to just putting out albums as Kevin Hart, so now he’s letting a character he plays make some cash. Chocolate Droppa, Kevin Hart’s inept, comfort-loving rapper alter ego will release an album this autumn with Motown Records. In addition to Hart’s stand-up and film career, he’ll expand his musical career by delving more into the incoherent, suburban rapper.
Hart announced the news earlier this week on his Facebook with a video in front of the Capitol Records building.
Hart’s time as Chocolate Droppa spans back to 2011 when the rapper was first only known as Chocolate Drop and released homemade videos through his Laugh Out Loud Network. People regularly walk into the shot as Chocolate Droppa freestyles and trucks nearly back up onto him, interrupting the rapper’s flow. More recently, Chocolate Droppa appeared on “Drop the Mic” in a rap battle against James Corden. The line between Kevin Hart and Chocolate Droppa is unclear; whether Droppa is merely Hart rapping or a more fleshed-out character will be evident in the album.
In this latest appearance, Chocolate Droppa’s lyrics were written by Jensen Karp and comedian Eliza Skinner. Despite Hart’s extensive career as a stand-up, this calls into question what other collaborations the upcoming album will include.
