Katt Williams Calls Kevin Hart a Puppet, Gets Arrested, and the Two Have Nothing to Do With Each Other

Katt Williams has had a busy weekend. He was arrested on Monday in Gainsville on charges of battery after he lost his cool at a pool supply store. CBS46 reports that a clerk at the store told police Katt threw an object at him, and punched him after they had an argument.

On Saturday, Williams was throwing some trash talk over in Kevin Hart’s direction during a a show in Atlanta. When you reach the level of success that Kevin Hart has, it seems as though opinions start popping up all over town. It is no secret that Katt Williams doesn’t care for Hart’s particular brand of humor. Never one to hold back, Williams offered some opinions about Hart to his Atlanta audience near the end of his set for the Conspiracy Theory tour, according to Uproxx.com.

“I don’t care nothin’ ‘bout what happens to Kevin [Hart], I just wish him the best. I just know that that’s somebody’s hand is stuck up that baby, you understand? Oh, we’re a puppet show, boo boo. Please believe it. You’re looking at the only n**** that ain’t.”

Williams continued in what seemed to be a real attempt to point out what he saw as the industry vs the independent artist, and seemed to point that his target wasn’t Hart, but the industry itself.

“I’ve already proven that if the best they got in comedy is Kevin Hart — don’t you boo a black man working hard, baby,” he said as the crowd reacted with boos. “Even if that n****’s a puppet, it’s not his fault. We don’t get mad. Just because I’m better than some black dudes, doesn’t mean I’m better than no black dudes. I’m saying if you want to be mad at Kermit The Frog, don’t be mad at Kermit The Frog, be mad at Jim Henson. Don’t say, ‘F**k Donald Duck’ when you really mean, ‘F**k Walt Disney.’”

Honestly, that seemed like a fair and balanced way to address the situation. Unfortunately, Williams’ didn’t stop there and the next few lines became headline worthy “So, since I’ve already officially proven to myself that I really am who Richard Pryor passed his torch to, and that I was able to do it without letting a man suck my d**k, or sucking a man’s d**k. I walked in with a virgin a**hole, I walked out with a virgin a**hole. I got the same soul today that I had when I did Pimp Chronicles all the way right here to the end of Pimp Chronicles.”

First of all, I can’t take this seriously, and I question any publication that uses that line as the starting point to this story. If all you can take away from what Williams said is “Did Kevin Hart really s*ck a dick and that’s why he is famous??” You are not only missing the point, you are willfully brewing a controversy because it is a slow news day. Katt Williams says things like “s*ck a dick” like other people say “Hey,how are ya?”.

Secondly, I question how Katt could know this information, without actually being in the room to watch said dick sucking, which, would be a little gay, right? It’s an absurd statement, when you think about it. Can we stop trying to take someone literally and out of context and blowing situations up?

Hart responded in the way one would expect if he was at the Oscars, and posted a photo with Chris Rock and Dave Chappelle, with some words about supporting each other instead of tearing each other down (there was also a statement on the red carpet about comedy being a fraternity, but I’m not feminist enough to want to break that down, but I’m sure the internet won’t let us down)

On a personal note, as an LGBTQ person and as a woman, can we move beyond “sucking a dick” as our go to insult for men? It implies that only men hold powerful positions in Hollywood and it perpetuates the notion that sexuality and masculinity are somehow connected. If you have to perform sexual favors you don’t want to perform to get ahead in Hollywood, that is a problem, regardless of the gender of the participants. Why didn’t Katt Williams say “Kevin Hart had to eat a lot of p*ssy” to get where he is today? Of right, implying a man is a master of cunnilingus doesn’t have the same clickbait effect as implying that a man is gay. Is it a coincidence that Williams chose to bring it up around the Oscars? No way, Williams just proved when it comes to Hollywood, two can play that game.
