Kathy Griffin Was Told CBS Wasn’t Considering Women For Late Night

James Cordon has been announced as the new host of the Late Late Show. Kathy Griffin says he was exactly what CBS was looking for, meaning he’s a man.

The comedian told AP about her experience with the network and applying for the late night gig. She said – “I was interested in the Ferguson spot long before it was announced because I had a feeling things might shift. My joke phrase is, ‘I can start Monday.'” That’s when an unnamed CBS executive told her “They’re not considering females at this time.” She then explained to the exec that policy is illegal and shouldn’t  be brought up in a business meeting. That didn’t change things.

Griffin says she also met with another TV higher-up and explained to him how embarrassing it was not have any women as late night talk show hosts. The response she got was – “Well, you have ‘The Talk.'”

According to Griffin – “I walk into the (meeting) room thinking, ‘I’ll give it a shot.’ I leave the room thinking, ‘I never had a chance,'”.

The very male James Cordon will take over the Late Late Show from fellow man Craig Ferguson sometime in early January, 2015.
