Kate McKinnon is So Funny That Ryan Gosling Can’t Hold It Together

Last night Saturday Night Live delivered a strong episode with some great music from Leon Bridges, a guest appearance from SNL alum Mike Myers and some really strong sketches, all featuring Gosling. There were so many great sketches  last night it’s hard to pick the best ones to share but there were two that stood out as the strongest.

Ryan Gosling Loses it During Alien Sketch

One of the funniest of the night included an extended break from host Ryan Gosling who couldn’t stop laughing at Kate McKinnon’s killer top performance as an alien abductee. The sketch shows three Americans who experienced the first verified cases of alien abduction being interviewed by government officials. Two of them had a beautiful god-like experience. One did not. Kate McKinnon, Cecily Strong, Ryan Gosling play the abductees with Bobby Moynihan and Aidy Bryant as government agents. The real star of the sketch is Kate McKinnon’s ku-ku. Gosling starts biting on his lip about 3 minutes in after McKinnon’s character talks about aliens batting her knockers around, and then everyone starts to get a little giggly.

Natural Born Christmas with Gosling and Bayer

Another stand out sketch- tied for first if we’re ranking- starred Gosling and Vanessa Bayer, as Doug and Gina, the new neighbors who get invited to a Christmas Party. When the hosts mention that Santa is going to make an appearance at the party, Gina and Doug go full Mickey and Mallory on the party in a clever take on Natural Born Killers.

Santa’s Got Some Damn Dirty Elves, and Scarecrow Visits East Oz

Later in the show Vanessa Bayer, Kenan Thompson and Ryan Gosling take love for Santa to an even creepier level, as elves waiting to be punished, and then Gosling, as the Scarecrow from the Wizard of Oz, takes an inadvertant visit to the land of East Oz when he falls asleep on a train.  He ends up meeting the cast of the Wiz.  Thanks to the sketch needing all black cast members on deck we get to see the criminally underused Sasheer Zamata as East Oz Dorothy, and a rare appearance by Michael Che in a sketch playing East Oz Scarecrow.  Kenan Thompson plays East Oz Lion and Jay Pharoah appears as East Oz Tin Man wiht Leslie Jones killing it as a Queen Latifah-y Wizard.
