Judd Apatow to Produce Film Penned by Girls, Broadway Star Andrew Rannells

"Girls" Season Four Premiere - ArrivalsAndrew Rannells has conquered Broadway and TV, now he’s setting his sights on the big screen. According to Deadline.com, Universal Pictures has acquired the still untitled comedy project that will serve as a star vehicle for the Grammy Award winner and Tony nominee. Rannells will also co-write the film and Judd Apatow will produce it under through Apatow Productions.

Rannells first gained notices in the Nancy Myers film, The Intern starring Anne Hathaway and Robert DeNiro. Next came his breakout role as Elder Price on the hit Broadway musical, The Book Of Mormon. Rannells was nominated for a Tony for the role and as a featured soloist won a Grammy Award for Best Musical Theater Album. He recently appeared on Broadway, replacing Neil Patrick Harris in the Broadway revival of Hedwig & The Angry Inch and has a co-starring role on the HBO series Girls.

No word yet on the name of the project or when it will begin production.
