Judd Apatow found out recently that Obama has seen his movie “Funny People” and that he and Michelle love “depressing movies.”

Apatow was in New York City last week, and made an appearance at weekly comedy show Comedy Juice.  Comedian and Monday morning columnist Jeffrey Gurian was there at Gotham Comedy Club last Tuesday.  Gurian described the evening in this week’s column. He said the lines were extra long at Gotham that night, as word had gotten out that Apatow would take the stage to perform stand up.

“When Judd Apatow took the stage a literal roar went up from the audience,” Gurian wrote in his Monday column.  He said Apatow talked about performing on the recent USO 75th Anniversary Show in Maryland at Andrews Airforce Base, where he had the chance to meet President Obama and the First Lady as well as Joe Biden and his wife.  According to Jeffrey’s column, Apatow said he had a deep desire to make the President laugh.  He also was curious whether Obama, who loves comedy, had seen any of his movies.  Obama told him he had seen Apatow’s Funny Peopleadding “We love depressing movies.”

It wasn’t Apatow’s first encounter with the President, he has written jokes for Obama for a Presidential dinner that took place the same night Osama Bin Laden was killed, which, he said, made him feel like he helped.

Apatow also had another thrilling moment that night at the USO show- he got to get a photo with David Letterman.  Last week on Late Night with Seth Meyers, he described the encounter as similar to getting to see Bigfoot.  “He’s like our bigfoot” Apatow said, showing off his photo with Letterman along with comedy super stars Mike Birbiglia, , and .
