Jon Stewart Film Gets November Release Date

“Rosewater”, the directorial debut from Daily Show host Jon Stewart will open in select theaters on Friday, November 7th according to the Hollywood Reporter.

Stewart had taken a 3 month hiatus from hosting the Daily Show to shoot the political drama last year. “Rosewater” is based on BBC journalist Maziar Bahari and Aimee Molloy’s New York Times best-selling memoir Then They Came for Me: A Family’s Story of Love, Captivity and Survival, which tells the story of Bahari’s 2009 arrest by the Iranian government while covering an election protest. Maziar Bahari was subjected to interrogation, torture and solitary confinement during most of his 118 days in captivity.

Jon Stewart became interested in the project after indirectly becoming involved in Bahari’s arrest by Iranian officials. Bahari had appeared on The Daily Show to talk about Iran, and his captors used the interview as evidence of his connection to Western spies.

Gael Garcia Bernal plays the captured journalist and the November 7th release of “Rosewater” will come two months after the film makes its world premiere at this year’s Toronto Film Festival.
