John Oliver Calls The Super Bowl “Peak America” on Letterman

John Oliver loves the Super Ball because it’s “Peak America”.  Last night on Letterman, Oliver said there’s nothing like it anywhere in the world, and that it just might be the American Super Bowl that is what intimidates the world into following our lead, “I’m used to big sporting events in the world but I’m not used to seeing fighter jets fight over the stadium to start and then have a half hour of Katy Perry throwing glitter hand grenades.”  Happy, sad, dangerous, patriotic, religious and sponsored by Pepsi.

Oliver also shared a story about tasering himself recently during a show in Afghanistan, about a year ago. Oliver had been doing a gig for the troops and just wanted to make them laugh.  He walked off stage after a performance, when a soldier asked him if he wanted to taze himself and for no reason at all, Oliver said yes. It also comes up that having an accent does not create an obligation to say yes to insane requests by some dude.  Huh.  Didn’t know that.
