CBS has ordered a pilot for “Taxi-22″starring John Leguizamo. The comedy was picked up by the network 2 years ago, but has been delayed over finding the right person to star in it. The part goes to Johnny Legs who will star as a politically incorrect cab driver working in New York City according to Deadline.

“Taxi-22” is based on a French-Canadian comedy series and gained the interest of James Gandolfini before he passed away. Gandolfini first had plans to develop it at HBO and had even been talked about as possibly starring in the comedy. The project was so special to James Gandolfini, he will be listed as an executive producer on the pilot and possibly during the entire first season if CBS picks it up a series.

John Leguizamo will also be an executive producer on the series. Leguizamo is currently at the Sundance Film Festival for his new movie “The Experimenter” about Stanley Milgram, the scientist infamously known for his obedience research and his “just following orders” experiments in psychology where volunteers willingly gave electric-shocks to a subject strapped to a chair when instructed to. It stars Peter Sarsgaard and Winona Ryder.

Leguizamo appears to be enjoying the Sundance scenery and the gift bags on Twitter.
