John Cleese “Comedy is About People Being Stupid”

At 75, John Cleese has learned some things during his life and shared some of them with Bill Maher on Real Time. Cleese appeared on the 2014 finale of Maher’s show last week.  First of all, John Cleese is against stupidity. However, he’s learned that the world cannot get along with out it. Especially when it comes to comedy. According to Cleese, if everything was nice and appropriate, then nothing’s funny. Comedy is about not being right and it’s all about people being stupid.

On the subject of political correctness, Cleese feels it’s something that started out as a good idea and then went completely “absurd”. He also told Bill Maher that at his age, he’s learned that absolutely no one knows what they’re talking about.

And on a side note, if you’re a fan of John Cleese, don’t let him know. He’s not a fan of fans. And you may just get a resounding “fuck off”.
