Jimmy Kimmel, Sarah Silverman Will Judge JFL Roast Battle
Roast Battles have quickly become a mainstay of the New York comedy scene and, more recently, the club circuit nationwide. Last year, that trend made its way to Montreal, with roastmaster extraordinaire Jeff Ross teaming up with Just For Laughs organizers to host the 2015 Roastmaster Invitational. This year, Ross is collaborating with Comedy Central to host a bigger, ballsier event called Jeff Ross Presents Roast Battle.
In this four-night event, 16 professional roasters will take to the stage in a “Thunderdome-of-comedy bracket-style tournament,” facing off against each other in an attempt to claim the crown in this inaugural event. Comedy Central has announced a prestigious panel of celebrity judges, with more to be revealed later on, including Sarah Silverman, Anthony Jeselnik, Jimmy Kimmel and David Spade.
The 16 brave contestants have all been announced, and the lineup is full of absolute killers. The pairings are as follows:
Mark Normand vs. Tony Hinchcliffe
Jimmy Carr vs. Christi Chiello
Steve Rannazzisi vs. Sam Morril
Ralphie May vs. Ms. Pat
Sarah Tiana vs. Chris Cubas
Earl Skakel vs. Tom Ballard
Olivia Grace vs. K. Trevor Wilson
Matthew Broussard vs. Mike Lawrence
Proceedings will be led, of course, by Roast Master-in-Chief Jeff Ross, with comedian Brian Moses acting as referee.
In preparation, A Road to Roast Battle mini-tour made stops and filmed in four different cities, featuring individual battles that will be broadcast at midnight on July 24th on Comedy Central and will re-air right before the premiere of Jeff Ross Presents Roast Battle.
The four-night event will be filmed live at Montreal’s L’Astral, and will be aired on Comedy Central as four one-hour episodes from July 28th-31st at 10 p.m. ET/PT. The finale will air live on July 31st. Content from the Road to Roast Battle tour can also be found at RoastBattle.com and on the Comedy Central and Comedy Central Stand-Up Facebook pages.
This event promises to be legendarily funny, so be sure to keep your schedules open and your Depends strapped on tight from July 28th to the 31st.
