Jerry Seinfeld, David Letterman Pull Endorsements From Bill Cosby Book

A Cosby biography entitled Cosby: His Life and Times came out last year and got book jacket love from comedy admirers and A Listers like Billy Crystal, Dave Letterman and Jerry Seinfeld. Now Dave and Jerry want off the cover since they found out the Cos was so rapey.

Tom Keaney , who represents both Seinfeld and Letterman, tells THR in a statement, “We were unaware that those quotes were still in circulation, and are asking the publisher to refrain from their future use.”

It’s all academic now, because the books publisher Simon & Shuster has announced that they won’t be printing any further editions of the book, which itself has come under fire for softpeddling the abuse allegations.  And it’s not like anyone’s heading out with a bottle of white out to remove the quotes from existing jackets.  But how far will the guys go with this? Does Jerry go back and edit Cosby out of his documentary Comedian? That scene that Jerry showed up to kiss Cosby’s ring? Does Dave edit Cosby from any Late Show best of package that will show up on line in the future?

Nearly every single comic who has ever been interviewed has at some point praised Cosby for his comedy and his civil rights contributions.  Is anyone really holding a book jacket quote against anyone?

You don’t have to whitewash to convince the world that you are against rape. Revisionist history doesn’t help anyone.
