Jay Pharoah Series ‘White Famous’ Gets Series Pickup

Back in August, shortly after Jay Pharoah lost his gig at Saturday Night Live (along with Taran Killam and Jon Rudnitsky), we reported that he had a few new roles on television lined up. One of those roles was in the pilot for the Jamie Foxx/Tom Kapinos joint comedy venture White Famous. Well, after a few months of consideration, Showtime announced it has finally decided to grant a series order to the project and announced the news at the 2017 Television Critics Association Winter Press Tour.

There aren’t many details known about the show thus far, only that it will follow the story of comedian Floyd Mooney (Pharoah), who struggles with his success as he tries to find a balance between his own identity and the one that is making him “white famous.” Megalyn Echikunwoke from House of Lies will play the love of  his life, mother of his son and ex-girlfriend. Utkarsh Ambudkar from The Mindy Project plays Floyd’s agent. Jacob Ming-Trent and Lonnie Chavis co-star, and the always hilarious Stephen Tobolowsky will guest star in the pilot.

The show is the brainchild of actor/musician Jamie Foxx and Californication creator Tom Kapinos. Foxx will have a recurring role in the show, with the first episode being directed by Barbershop director Tim Story.

Still no word on when the show is expected to make its debut.
