The plans for rebooting the “Fletch” movie franchise have never gone away. The latest development now is that the remake in the works starring Jason Sudeikis as the title character Chevy Chase brought to life has changed studios. Relativity Studios is looking at the project now that Warner Bros. has decided to move on. The new studio is still interested in doing the film with Sudeikis. Wait, was Chris Pratt still busy!?

The idea to redo the movie based on the Gregory McDonald novels has gone back at far as 2003. After a third movie couldn’t be worked out with Chevy Chase, Kevin Smith wanted to relaunch the franchise with Jason Lee as Fletch. The project then went through different directors and leading men, including Zach Braff, Ben Affleck, Brad Pitt, Will Smith, and Jimmy Fallon all being mentioned for the part.

No writers or director have been selected for the Relativity Studios concept, but according to the Hollywood Reporter, the film is expected to be based on McDonald’s 8th novel in the series, “Fletch Won” which features the first big break in I.M. Fletcher’s career as a reporter.
