It’s A Summer Of Brand New Comedy On NBC Featuring Ron Funches, Andrea Martin, Greg Poehler And More
NBC is looking to build off of last Summer’s success with the new season America’s Got Talent and the return of Last Comic Standing, the Peacock Network is working on some new comedy series for this Summer.
“UNDATEABLE” – Chris D’Elia, (best known as Whitney Cumming’s boyfriend on “Whitney”) stars as Danny, a know-it-all when it comes to women. Danny decides to help out his new roommate, Justin Kearney (comedian Brent Morin, seen on Conan and Chelsea Lately) in the dating world. The series also stars Ron Funches (from our list of Comedians Ready To Blow Up), Rick Glassman (in his first network series) and David Fynn (Rennick to “Game of Thrones” fans).
“TAXI BROOKLYN” – An action-comedy police procedural centered on the partnership between a streetwise New York City taxi driver and an intensely driven NYPD detective for whom this immigrant cabbie becomes chauffeur, insider on the streets and unofficial partner. Starring Chyler Leigh from Grey’s Anatomy and Jacky Ido from Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso who appeared in Quentin Tarantino’s “Inglorious Basterds”.
“WELCOME TO SWEDEN” – created by and starring Greg Poehler (Amy’s brother). Bruce Evans (Greg Poehler) and Emma Wiik (Josephine Bornebusch, who was a member of the Swedish version of “Saturday Night Live”) seem to be the perfect couple, so when she makes the life-changing decision to move back to her native Stockholm, Bruce goes with her and ends up experiencing some culture shock. The first season will include guest stars Amy Poehler, Will Ferrell, Aubrey Plaza, and Gene Simmons.
“WORKING THE ENGELS” – starring the fantastic Andrea Martin of SCTV fame. The series centers on a family who must band together to keep their heads above water when their father and breadwinner passes away, leaving them a mountain of debt. The series also stars Kacey Rohl from NBC’s “Hannibal” and Benjamin Arthur from “American Reunion”.
And on the dramatic side – “CROSSBONES” – starring John Malkovich as the pirate Blackbeard. It’s 1715 on the Bahamian island of New Providence where the diabolical pirate Blackbeard reigns over a rogue nation of thieves, outlaws and miscreant sailors. Think of it as “Pirates of the Caribbean: The Series”.
