Is The NFL Using ESPN To Make Ballghazi Sound Worse?

No, there’s no evidence they forced ESPN to make a mountain out of a molehill: they were always going to do that. But when the controversy broke in January, Chris Mortensen reported from “league sources” that all but one Pats ball was under-inflated by two pounds. However, it was later discovered that only one ball was under-inflated by that much. This past Tuesday, Stephen A. Smith quoted sources that said the suspension would stand because Tom Brady destroyed his cell phone. When the news officially dropped hours later, that became a major story in itself, even though Ted Wells noted in his original report that he only required the phone’s records, not the physical phone itself.

Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio notes it seems like the league is leaking out information to ESPNers to make parts of Ballghazi seem more scandalous, which JESUS CHRIST IT’S JUST SOME FUCKING SAGGY BALLS!
