Impractical Jokers Live: Nitro Circus Spectacular Beats All Expectations

A long-awaited evening of comedy and action dominated cable ratings, earned the rank of truTV’s #1 telecast of the year and swarmed the Internet while providing fans with an unforgettable night. Following tradition, the season finale of hidden-camera prank show “Impractical Jokers” melded with traveling sports/action spectacle, this year with Nitro Circus for a two-hour high-stakes event in front of 6,000 fans at Newark, New Jersey’s Prudential Center for charity. A roaring multi-platform success and a terrific synergy between comedians with a willingness to go too far, and accomplished athletes; the night met and demolished expectations.

the scale of what a success “Impractical Jokers” has become rivals their most elaborate obstacle courses.

The event was a spectacular, in name and every detail. The high stakes were evident. Last year’s main obstacle– a tightrope walk 5,000 feet high– seems almost easy compared to the risks the Jokers subjected themselves to this time around. Sports superstar Travis Pastrana of Nitro Circus and NFL Network’s Kay Adams co-hosted the slapstick decathlon with a bridge over “Scoopski Potatoes”, a “Tire Baby Alley”, pit bikes, a surprise appearance from an *NSYNC member and many, many trampolines comprising an obstacle course seemingly invented by an omnipotent twelve year old with a devious imagination. The loser’s challenges were even more ridiculous; James “Murr” Murray was punished for his lackluster performance by being strapped into a dolly while the Nitro Circus riders whizzed by on motorcycles and the culminating event was pelting a harnessed Sal Vulcano around the gigantic arena like a tetherball, until slamming him into a gigantic wall of cake.

It makes sense that the simple premise of friends doing their damnedest to embarrass one another would be a hit, but the scale of what a success “Impractical Jokers” has become rivals their most elaborate obstacle courses. The night raised $160,000 for Make-a-Wish, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Stephen Siller Tunnel of Towers, Pop Culture Hero Coalition and was deliberated on by nearly 100,000 Twitter-based votes from fans. It also garnered more than 188 million reactions over social media, establishing the performance as “trending”. “Impractical Jokers” has also been greenlit for an upcoming 6th season, currently in production, and hails as the #1 show in the United Kingdom as broadcast by Comedy Central. Overall, the evolution of a comedy troupe into a phenomenon inspiring themed cruises and all the while producing a hit television show through their own production company is a dream come true.

Congratulations to Joe Gatto, James Murray, Brian Quinn and Sal Vulcano.
