IFC Hit Series Ending After Five Seasons

Alas, all good things must come to an end: early on Thursday afternoon, Comedy Bang Bang creator and star Scott Aukerman announced that the show would be coming to an end after five seasons on IFC. In a string of tweets, Aukerman declared the show’s demise and took time to thank all of the show’s many guests, its supporters, and his cast of co-stars.

But fear not! Aukerman, co-star Weird Al Yankovic and his team plan (forgive the pun) to go out with a bang, promising that they “get to do some crazy stuff in the final ten.” After 5 seasons and 110 episodes of some pretty out-there comedy, it’s fun to imagine what Aukerman and company might have up their sleeves for their grand finale. And, of course, fans can always get their Aukerman/CBB fix https://soundcloud.com/comedybangbang (from the podcast) of the same name, which just recently recorded its 440th episode with guests Matt Besser, Todd Glass and Jon Gabrus.

In a public statement, IFC president Jennifer Caserta had these kind words for Aukerman and the show: “Comedy Bang! Bang! had a unique sensibility in the comedy space, and delivered an amazing array of A-list guest stars. Scott and his team worked with our advertising partners in ways that were as buzzy as the jokes. We are proud to celebrate ‘Comedy Bang! Bang!’ across this final 10-episode send-off and appreciate everything it has meant to IFC.”

The first half of season five ran from June 3rd to July 1st, and was Yankovic’s first season as band leader (following in the footsteps of Kid Cudi and Reggie Watts). The last half of the season will debut on October 28th and end with a two-part finale on December 10th. These episodes promise to be a hilarious ode to a one-of-a-kind show, so be sure to tune in.
